Someone else had basically the same question as mine and the answer was as follows
OK, go to View, then explorer bar, then search. Once that is up, click on the customize button at the top of the sidebar. There you can both change what search is used in the sidebar and in the adress bar. But to change the adress bar engine, you must click on Autosearch settings. There you can change it to Yahoo. Hope this helps!
I did this and I still have aol as my address bar engine. I don't want that. How can I change it back to yahoo or google?|||You could uninstall it from the add and remove programs section in the control panel, then download the toolbar that you want.
http://toolbar.yahoo.com/
http://toolbar.google.com/|||Here's how:
Click Start/Run, type REGEDIT and go to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\I鈥?Explorer\Main
In the right hand pane, look for the values Search Page and Search Bar
Double click Search Page and replace the existing url with this one:
http://www.google.com
Double click Search Bar and replace the existing url with this one:
http://www.google.com/ie
Next go to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\I鈥?Explorer\SearchURL
Double click Default in the right hand pane and replace the url with this:
http://www.google.com/keyword/%s
Finally, go to this nearby key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\鈥?Explorer\Search
In the right hand pane, double click the value SearchAssistant and replace the existing value with this:
http://www.google.com/ie
Exit the registry, and close and reopen Internet Explorer.
Click the Search button on the IE toolbar. You should now see Google, instead of MSN, pop up as your default Internet Explorer search engine.
be very careful
