When I enter something into the address bar it doesnt search it with the default search engine?

I have internet explorer and windows vista. My default search engine is google and I have this little search box in the right hand corner of the ie page next to the address bar and i have to use that box to search things or go onto a search engine site. When i try to search things in the address bar it doesnt work, it says internet page cannot be displayed. How can i change this?|||Type in "www.google.com" and when it shows up save it as a "favorite" or a bookmark.

Download Google and click on the choice to make Google your home page. You will always have Google then.

Check your preferences for "open with" and use the Google address. Make sure the address is correct!
